WHY SHOULD I  HELP?

The Dodge City Public Library is a people oriented public service agency reaching out to serve citizens including children, learners, the disadvantaged and the physically handicapped. It is a place where people of all ages, cultures, ethnic or racial backgrounds and all economic levels can find the means to promote self-improvement, acquire new skills, improve economic status and enjoy literary, artistic, musical, scientific and political achievements of many cultures.

THE NEED

To be such a dynamic library, the Dodge City Public Library needs the financial aid of concerned, civic-minded citizens who can help the library extend beyond the financial limits posed by the tax appropriation.

YOU AND YOUR LIBRARY

You can help the library in several ways. Each type of contribution allows the library to offer or maintain services that would not be possible without private support. The gifts do not reduce the city's responsibility to maintain basic operating funds for the library. Your participation can expand the resources of the library, provide continuing benefit to the community and offer personal or corporate tax savings. Consult an attorney, bank trust officer or insurance professional for advice on the methods of giving that are most appropriate for your benefit as well as the long term growth of the library. "

FOUNDATION GIFT

Your tax-deductible gift to the Dodge City Library Foundation promotes the continued growth and improvement of the library by establishing an endowment fund which may be used to purchase materials, services, equipment and any other assistance for the library. Uses of the funds are determined by a Foundation Board of Directors. This foundation not only assists the library with present needs, but also provides security with a vision for the future.

WILLS AND BEQUEST

The Dodge City Library Foundation Board invites individuals to consider giving long term support to the library through wills and bequests. Undesignated gifts and bequests of funds or property to the library made through a will or directly,  wilt be administered by the Dodge City Library Foundation Board. Gifts may consist of cash, stocks and bonds, real estate and personal property.

INSURANCE

Life insurance offers individual or corporate donors present and future tax advantages while increasing the  library's ability to serve the community. Life insurance can be a direct charitable tax deduction. A charitable bequest allows the donor to own the policy and reduce estate taxation by naming the library as a beneficiary. Split do11ar plans allow designated heirs and the library to be beneficiaries.

TRUSTS

A variety of trust arrangements offer income tax savings while increasing the library's ability to serve the community. Several types of charitable trusts are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Trusts allow the donor to care for dependents and heirs, receive significant tax advantages and improve the community through the library.

MEMORIAL AND COMMEMORATIVE GIFTS

The library is able to offer a greater selection of reading and listening titles through memorial and commemorative

donations. The library staff will select a book or non-print title in an interest area of the person being honored. A notification is sent to the family. A gift plate recognizes the honoree. This program is a lasting way or honoring a special person and helping the community.

GOODS AND SERVICES

Contributions of specific items or talent and services can offer tax advantages to the donor and release operating funds for library materials and public activities. The Library Director maintains a list of current needs.  Feel free to discuss possible contributions with the Director or Human Resource Manager.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

The Friends of the Dodge City Public Library assist staff with special projects which provide funds for immediate needs in the library service program. Book sale proceeds and membership dues provide materials and programs which extend the library's benefit to users. Friends volunteer to help with children's activities, adult level programs or time consuming tasks in the library workday. These valuable volunteers assist paid staff and effectively stretch the limited financial resources of the library.
