the Director's Desk
The gas prices are going up, prices for motels and entertainment are rising, but you want to take a family vacation so what do you do? I suggest you take your family vacation at the library. Here you can find activities for everyone in your family and at a cost you can afford. The family can find stories to read together, they can attend one of the movies taking place on Fridays during June and July or the first Tuesday morning of the month. There are special programs for children and for teens. All of these activities are free to the public. The programs for children range from arts and crafts to viewing some hissing cockroaches. Teens can join in relay races or they can make their own banana splits at the programs designed just for them. Bring your family to the activity rug in the youth area and teach your children how to play hop scotch or cribbage. Read a book together or everyone read their own then share with the family what they have just read. Before you leave check out a video to watch with the family at home in the evening. So check out the library's web page or stop by and see what special activities are taking place at the library then schedule a time to take your family vacation at the library.
Please drop us a line or send an email to me at director@trails.net. If you have not been to the library lately, stop by and see what is new here.

Spotlight on Staff
Darren Nietling, began working at Dodge City Public Library in August of 2003 as a library page. At the end of December 2007 Darren was promoted to the position of Circulation Assistant. Besides assisting patrons by locating and checking out materials to them, Darren withdraws old and out of date materials from the catalog and relocates new books to their permanent location on the shelves. Darren graduated from Dodge City Community College with an Associates of Arts degree then worked for a time as a para with the Dodge City Schools. In his spare time he likes to fish, spend time in the outdoors, and write poetry. The next time you are in the library stop by the circulation desk and exchange some tall fish stories with Darren. |
